Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (RECL) supported ICRISAT-led consortium to establish two watershed learning sites in Penukonda mandal (4 villages viz. viz. Kondampalle, Gonipeta, Settipalle and Cherlopalle; 3150 ha cultivated land; and home to 8700 people) of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, India and Wanaparthy mandal (4 villages viz. The specific objectives of the project are:
- To establish “Model Sites of Learning” in Wanaparthy (erstwhile Mahboobnagar) district of Telangana state (India) and Anantapur districts of Andhra Pradesh (India) for harnessing the potential of rainfed areas by adopting integrated water resource management approach;
- To enhance water availability and its (green and blue water) use efficiency for diversifying the livelihood systems in the target villages by adopting integrated water resource management approach; and
- To build capacity of the farmers in the region for improving rural livelihoods through knowledge sharing and dissemination strategy
