From 3-10 July 2025, an ICRISAT delegation led by Dr Rebbie Harawa, Global Research Program Director – Resilient Farm and Food Systems (RFFS) & Director – Africa, participated in the Islamic Development Bank’s (IsDB) Appraisal Mission for the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project in Uganda. The team visited LEGS I implementation districts, observing transformative interventions such as piped drinking water schemes and solar energy systems, which are boosting local economies while advancing climate adaptation and environmental sustainability.

Recognizing the potential for broader impact, the delegation highlighted opportunities for integrated landscape resource conservation to enhance livelihoods and natural resource availability. During the mission, the team held high-level discussions with Uganda’s Honorable Minister of Local Government, Mr Raphael Magyezi, and Permanent Secretary Mr Benjamin Kumumanya, reaffirming ICRISAT’s commitment to science-backed, inclusive development under LEGS II. The Ugandan government applauded ICRISAT’s partnership, emphasizing its role in fostering sustainable agricultural growth and rural prosperity.
