ICRISAT, in collaboration with OLM and Mission Shakti, set up four mushroom spawn production units in Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, and Gajapati districts to address the shortage of quality spawn. Lack of spawn availability has been a major hurdle despite strong local demand for mushrooms. The units are equipped with autoclaves, hot air ovens, and incubators to ensure quality production. SHG members received hands-on training in oyster and paddy straw mushroom spawn preparation. Each unit can produce about 500 bottles daily, significantly meeting local cultivation needs.
