As part of the On-Farm Livelihood Management (OLM) initiative,ICRISAT has established a banana pseudo-stem fibre extraction unit in Puri district for empowering a women self-help group in Puri district. This unit transforms banana pseudo-stem waste, typically discarded after harvest, into valuable natural fibre, promoting sustainable agriculture and generating additional income for local farmers. The technology supports eco-friendly industries such as textiles, handicrafts, and biodegradable products, while enhancing rural livelihoods. By leveraging this innovative processing unit, the OLM-ICRISAT project fosters circular economy practices.
