ICRISAT Strengthens Ties with Government of Uttar Pradesh to Boost Farmer Livelihoods

Director General of ICRISAT, Dr Himanshu Pathak, met the Honorable Agriculture Minister of Uttar Pradesh, India, Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, on 9 July 2025 to discuss strategic agricultural partnerships. The meeting, held in Lucknow, brought together key stakeholders, including Mr Ravindra, Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Mr Deepak Kumar, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Mr Awanish Awasthi, Former Additional Chief Secretary, and Dr KV Raju, Economic Advisor to the Honorable Chief Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

A key focus was the establishment of the Bundelkhand Centre of Excellence on Regenerative Agriculture at Banda University of Agriculture and Technology (BUAT), a critical initiative for sustainable farming in the region.

Representatives from Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research (UPCAR) and the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research (IISR) joined ICRISAT experts Dr Ramesh Singh and Mr RK Uttam in exploring collaborative opportunities to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability at the Heartland of India.

Beyond policy dialogues, Dr Pathak engaged with scientists from four Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutions in Lucknow, emphasizing science-driven solutions to benefit farmers.
