ICRISAT Development Centre (IDC)
ICRISAT Development Centre (IDC) is the translational Research for Development (R4D) wing of the Global program on Resilient Farm and Food Systems (RFFS). Our mission is to bridge the gap between scientific research and large-scale impact, by developing innovations across landscape resource conservation, soil health, and water management at scale.
We integrate climate-resilient agriculture technologies, conservation agriculture, improved seed varieties, need-based mechanization, soil health management, agroforestry, and high-value vegetable cultivation to achieve sustainable crop intensification and profit maximization with minimal water-energy footprints.
Our Mission
We develop innovation clusters across Asia and Africa, serving as learning sites for climate change, land degradation, water management, and health & nutrition research. This work supports food security and poverty reduction, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Core Focus Areas
- Scaling up proven technologies: Transforming tested innovations into system-wide solutions for widespread adoption, developed in partnership with diverse organizations.
- Scaling out new technologies: Identifying and promoting promising new solutions for farmers, collaborating with partners on research, product development, and capacity building.
- Monitoring & evaluation: Tracking progress, learning from experience, and ensuring positive impact for smallholder farmers.
- Capacity building: Training partners, providing technical assistance, and enabling resource access for technology adoption.
Collaboration & Vision
The IDC collaborates with national agricultural research systems, development organizations, private companies, and farmer organizations. By working together, we strive to help millions of smallholder farmers benefit from improved technologies and practices, shaping a sustainable, resilient future.
